The WordPress Dream Theme includes four widgetized sidebar areas. Below is a visual of how the sidebar areas are arranged:

Sidebar One (shown in red above) appears at the very top of the sidebar. This would be a good place to include an opt-in form, or anything that you want to give more prominence on your site. Anything placed in sidebar one will appear at the top of the sidebar area on all pages of your site.

Sidebar Two (shown in blue above) appears below the “Popular, Comments, Featured” tabs in the narrow left-hand column. Anything placed in Sidebar Two will appear on all pages of your site.

Sidebar Three (shown in purple above) appears below the “Popular, Comments, Featured” tabs in the narrow right-hand column. Anything placed in Sidebar Three will appear on all pages of your site.

Sidebar Four (shown in green above) appears just below Sidebar One, but ONLY on the home page of your site. This sidebar should be used for content that you ONLY want to include on the home page of your site. For example, if you have a video that should only appear on the home page, then it should go in Sidebar Four.

It’s easy to add an image to your featured posts using a WordPress Custom Field! The recommended size for a “featured post image” is 200 x 150 (pixels). When you write a new post (or edit an existing one), scroll down until you see the “Custom Fields” section. Click the “+” symbol to expand this section (see screenshot below).

In the field labeled “Key,” you need to type the word “featured” (without the quotes, of course).

In the “Value” field, enter the full URL to the image you would like to use (starting with http:// … ) You will need to upload the image to your web server first (or use the built-in WordPress Image Upload tool).

When you have entered the appropriate information, click the “Add Custom Field” button and save your post.

Click the thumbnail below to see an example of how you can use a custom field to add an image to your featured post:
